| This year 9 Members of the Key West Fire/EMS Department took part in a variety of activities at the Iowa Firefighter's Convention in Waverly. We didn't win any trophies this year but we participated in the Lake Mills FD Cooking Competition and Atlantic FD's Can Tab Collection.
Cooking Competition: Nick Arnold smoked a delicious beef brisket this year which took 3rd place in the main dish category.
Can Tab Collection: Friends of the KWFD donated can tabs totaling 34 pounds! There are approximately 1350 tabs in one pound so 34 pounds equals 45,900 tabs. In past years we have had totals of 75 to 110 pounds! If you would like to help us save tabs for next years convention we would appreciate it! We collect can tabs for the Shrine Hospital Burn Unit. The Atlantic Fire Department started collecting in 2006 and have since collected over 5,600 lbs. and raised over $5,000 for the burn unit.
2019 convention is in Manchester. If you would like to help us save can tabs for next year, please feel free to contact the firehouse when you are ready to drop them off! |
